"I do not make homes to define identity, I build to question what it means to belong."
Rim Albahrani
ABOUT ME
Artist, Curator,
and Researcher
Rim Albahrani (b. 1995, Amman, Jordan) is a Swedish-Iraqi interdisciplinary artist based in New York. Her practice engages questions of identity, structure, and place through a conceptual and material investigation of form. Working across sculpture, painting, and silkscreen prints, Rim develops a visual language that explores how meaning is shaped through repetition, orientation, and spatial relationships.
A recurring element in Albahrani’s work is the use of architectural forms, particularly the house, as a structure through which broader questions of identity and positioning are explored. These forms allow her to examine how identity is shaped, negotiated, and reconfigured across different contexts, without relying on fixed narratives or singular readings.
Albahrani’s practice is informed by her background in art history and curatorial research. She holds a BA and MA in History of Art from the University of York, where she focused on modern and contemporary art, critical theory, and the visual cultures of the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia. She has worked as a researcher and curator at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha. Across both artistic and curatorial practice, Albahrani remains invested in examining how structures, frameworks, and contexts shape the production of meaning.
